Spicy Home is a full-service Chinese restaurant specializing in Sichuan cuisine, nestled in Hacienda Heights on S Azusa Ave. The setting strikes a balance between traditional warmth and contemporary touches, featuring natural wood elements and tasteful red accents that reflect Sichuan’s vibrant culinary heritage without feeling overwhelming. The recently renovated space offers a comfortable dining environment with thoughtful air conditioning and private rooms, making it well-suited for both casual meals and family gatherings.

For those curious about Sichuan food’s signature bold and numbing spice profile, Spicy Home delivers a genuine experience that doesn’t hold back on heat or authentic flavors. Dishes like the house special boiled fish (那家水煮鱼) and mapo tofu exhibit the fiery, savory qualities typical of the region. Yet, the menu accommodates a range of spice tolerance levels, so even visitors who aren’t accustomed to spicy food can find satisfying options.

The menu also highlights a variety of standout dishes that showcase Sichuan’s diverse textures and ingredients: sautéed string beans and eggplant, cumin beef, and unique choices like the original frog preparations and toothpick lamb. Portions tend to be generous, fitting the style of a group-oriented dining scene where plates are shared and flavors layered.

Spicy Home draws a mix of locals who appreciate bold, well-executed traditional Sichuan cooking paired with attentive service that adapts to diners’ needs, such as modifying spice intensity for children. It tends to feel lively but not overcrowded, especially in the evenings. The atmosphere supports relaxed meals where the focus is on food and conversation rather than hurried service.

  • Best for: Fans of authentic Sichuan spice and those seeking hearty group dinners.
  • Ideal visitors: Families, adventurous eaters, and anyone interested in regional Chinese dishes with depth and heat.
  • Best time to visit: Dinner, when the kitchen’s bold flavors and spice hit their stride in a cozy environment.
  • Atmosphere: Warm, inviting, with a nod to traditional Chinese decor; accommodates both intimate gatherings and larger groups comfortably.

Spicy Home really surprised me in the best way. The food is super authentic Sichuan: bold, flavorful, and the portions are huge. Even if you don’t usually eat spicy, there are plenty of dishes you’ll still enjoy. What really stood out to me, though, is the design of the space. It feels warm and inviting, with natural wood tones and just the right touch of red accents. The lighting is beautiful, soft and ambient, without any of those harsh LED dots you usually see. It feels really high-end, but the prices are totally reasonable. The owners are super friendly and welcoming too, which just made the whole experience even better. Definitely a place I’ll keep coming back to.

This Sichuan restaurant’s $75 roast duck is delicious, with crispy skin and tender meat, offering great value for money! Its authentic Sichuan flavors, bold and spicy, rank among the best in Rowland Heights. The dishes are affordable, fresh, and generously portioned. The newly renovated space boasts charming Chinese-style decor, creating a warm atmosphere perfect for family gatherings or hosting guests. With attentive service and a clean, cozy environment, it’s ideal for spice lovers and those seeking milder flavors. Highly recommended for an authentic Sichuan dining experience!

An excellent Sichuan restaurant with genuine regional flavors. The numbing-spicy profile is authentic, not toned down for Western tastes. Dishes are well-executed and consistently flavorful. A must-visit for Sichuan food lovers.

One of the best Szechuan spots I’ve tried! I highly recommend the toothpick lamb and the mapo tofu- both were absolutely delicious. The mouth-numbing sensation was off the charts! The new atmosphere is really nice and not overcrowded, which made the experience even better.

Had a great experience here today! It was my first time here but my family members have been several times. Upon entering, the updated interior decor and cool air conditioning was pleasant. Our waitress and the staff were responsive and kind. They kindly accommodated adjustments to the spice levels for the kids and made recommendations. Food was delicious. They also have private rooms for large parties. Restrooms were updated and clean but not many stalls.

The restaurant has spent a fortune on this new location, and the decor is up to date with warm lighting. Food is great, except they are too oily, a lot of cooking oil settles at the bottom of each dish, implying the food, especially stir-fried meat is either shallow-fried or deep-fried. This is a spicy food restaurant, most food is spicy; however, the cook is willing to accommodate, adjusting the level of spiciness, or even making it non-spicy. Service is friendly, and ordering food is via an iPad.
